First Impressions
Gold Reserve is the soft, sumptuous member of the Walker family.
Distillery & Heritage
The story goes that Sir Alexander Walker drafted notes for a special blend to mark the company's centenary in 1920, but it was never bottled in his lifetime. Master blender Jim Beveridge revived those notes for Gold Reserve. Clynelish, the famously waxy Northern Highland malt, is the heart of the blend.
Tasting Notes in Detail
The nose is immediately seductive — honey, vanilla, peach skin, chocolate. The palate is the textbook 'Clynelish wax' character writ large: silky, beeswax-rich, with orange blossom and butterscotch.
Verdict
If Black Label is the connoisseur's blend, Gold Reserve is the crowd-pleaser.
