Isle of Raasay Batch R-02 is the second core release from the tiny island distillery between Skye and the mainland. The whisky shows clear development from the first batch — more depth, better integration, and a more confident expression of the distillery's island character. The diverse cask programme continues, with rye, Bordeaux, chinquapin and conventional oak all contributing.
The development between batches is encouraging. The island character — maritime, gently smoky, with a coastal freshness — is becoming more defined, and the diverse cask types are starting to integrate more cohesively. The distillery's willingness to experiment with unusual wood types gives it a point of difference from other island producers.
Isle of Raasay R-02 demonstrates a young distillery growing in confidence and quality. Each release shows the spirit developing and the distillery finding its voice. As the stocks mature and the cask programme refines, the potential for genuinely excellent island whisky is increasingly evident.
