Tasting Notes

Nose

Beeswax, dark honey, dried figs, polished oak, wisps of heather smoke and old leather.

Palate

Rich orange marmalade, dark chocolate, toasted walnuts, sherried raisins, and that signature whisper of peat.

Finish

Long, drying, with lingering tobacco leaf, oak spice and gentle smoke.

First Impressions

Highland Park 30 is one of the great old Orcadians.

Distillery & Heritage

Founded in 1798 on the outskirts of Kirkwall, Highland Park is the most northerly Scotch distillery and one of only a handful that still floor-malts a portion of its barley.

Tasting Notes in Detail

The nose opens slowly — beeswax and old library polish first, then dried figs, candied orange peel and a curl of heather smoke. The palate is dense and resinous.

Verdict

A masterclass in patient maturation.
