Tasting Notes

Nose

Sweet corn, rye spice, gentle peat smoke, honey, dried apricot and toasted marshmallow

Palate

Vanilla and caramel collide with peppery rye, then a slow drift of campfire smoke and heather

Finish

Long, sweet-and-smoky, with lingering peat, oak and brown sugar

First Impressions

Campfire is one of the genuinely original American whiskeys of the 21st century.

Distillery & Heritage

David Perkins dreamed it up after a Speyside trip when he wondered what would happen if you married American grain whiskey to peated Scotch. Released by High West in Park City, Utah, Campfire blends straight bourbon, straight rye and peated blended Scotch whisky.

Tasting Notes in Detail

The nose offers corn sweetness, rye pepper and a curl of peat that smells genuinely like a dying campfire. The palate moves through vanilla, caramel and clove before the smoke arrives mid-palate.

Verdict

A modern classic and a brilliant conversation piece.
