Tasting Notes

Nose

Fresh oak, vanilla, citrus zest, green apple, light honey and gentle spice.

Palate

Bright and oak-driven — vanilla, lemon curd, toasted almond, pepper and a clean malt core.

Finish

Long and spicy with cracked pepper, oak tannin and lingering citrus.

First Impressions

Quercus is High Coast's exploration of different oak species — from Quercus alba to Quercus robur and Quercus mongolica.

Distillery & Heritage

Founded in 2010 as Box Distillery on the banks of the Ångermanälven river in northern Sweden's High Coast UNESCO region, the distillery rebranded to High Coast in 2018 after a trademark dispute.

Tasting Notes in Detail

High Coast's house style is bright, citrus-led and remarkably clean — a perfect canvas for oak experimentation.

Verdict

One of Sweden's finest distilleries doing some of the most thoughtful cask work in modern whisky.
