Tasting Notes

Nose

Rich raisins and sultanas, vanilla and cinnamon. Sticky dark fruits and cinnamon, fudge and charred oak underneath. The American oak drives salted caramel while European oak layers dried fruits and spices.

Palate

Gingerbread, toffee apples, sultanas and walnuts. Impressively characterful for twelve years and 46.4% — dark and heavy yet also tropical and lively. Surprisingly oaky and spicy.

Finish

Long and spicy. The dual-oak influence sustains.

Glenturret 12 Year Old presents Scotland's oldest working distillery at genuine maturity under its Lalique ownership. American oak casks drive salted caramel sweetness while European oak layers dried fruits and spices. The 2023 release continues the multi-award-winning quality of the 2021 and 2022 vintages.

It is impressive how much character is packed into twelve years and 46.4% ABV. The whisky is dark, heavy and spicy — gingerbread, toffee apples, sultanas — yet also tropical and lively. The dual-oak programme creates breadth that single-wood maturation cannot achieve.

The Lalique-era Glenturret has won Gold and Double Gold awards across multiple spirits competitions, and the 12 Year Old is the expression that best demonstrates why. At its price, the quality competes with Highland malts of greater fame and higher cost. Scotland's oldest distillery, producing whisky of genuine modern distinction.
