Tasting Notes

Nose

Lemon zest and coconut — shortbread, toffee apples, a hint of sherry, ginger, vanilla, the unpeated Highland character clean and inviting

Palate

Toffee apples — acacia honey, nectarine in syrup, spice, toasted barley background, soft and fruity, the sherry cask adding depth without dominating, very quaffable

Finish

Medium — fruit and sweetness lingering, the slow distillation's signature smoothness, clean without any smoke

First Impressions

Glengoyne — at the Highland Line where Highland meets Lowland — is renowned for Scotland's slowest distillation and completely unpeated production. Air-dried barley (not kiln-dried) and hand-selected sherry casks for twelve years. Certified vegan.

Tasting

The nose is lemon zest with toffee apples and ginger. On the palate at 43%, toffee and honey with nectarine and spice. The finish is medium with fruit and sweetness.

The Verdict

Glengoyne 12 earns a 7 — unpeated Highland at its most approachable. The slowest distillation producing the softest spirit. At £38, the Highland for non-peat-lovers.
