First Impressions
Sandend takes its name from the small crescent bay just yards from the distillery's stone walls — and you can practically taste the location in the glass.
Distillery & Heritage
Released in 2023 under master blender Rachel Barrie, Sandend was conceived as Glenglassaugh's new flagship single malt. It's matured in a combination of ex-bourbon, sherry and — crucially — manzanilla sherry casks from Sanlúcar de Barrameda. Bottled at 50.5% ABV, non-chill-filtered.
Tasting Notes in Detail
The nose leaps from the glass with tropical fruit — pineapple, mango, peach — wrapped in sea spray and a dry, briny manzanilla note. The palate is gloriously oily and fruit-forward, the salinity from the manzanilla casks weaving beautifully through honeyed fruit and almond.
Verdict
A genuine modern classic in the making.
