First Impressions
Glenfiddich 26 Grande Couronne — 'great crown' in French. Part of the Grand Series from Dufftown. 26 years in bourbon and sherry casks, then finished for up to 2 years in French Cognac casks. Limited to 10,000 bottles.
The Cognac Connection
The Cognac cask finish distinguishes this from standard aged Glenfiddich. Aged spirit married with fine French oak that previously held Cognac, adding a patisserie-like richness to the signature orchard fruit character. 43.8% ABV.
Tasting
Fresh apple and tarte tatin nose with poached pear and Christmas spice. Impossibly smooth palate of caramel, honey, milk chocolate, and baked apple. Long, floral finish where the Cognac cask truly shines. Drinkhacker gave it an A-.
The Verdict
Glenfiddich 26 Grande Couronne earns an 8.5 — a genuinely elegant aged Speyside with a French twist. At £475, it's luxury territory, but the Cognac cask finish creates something special. The 'great crown' of a range that William Grant would recognise. Not just old — refined.
