First Impressions
The 21 Gran Reserva is Glenfiddich's tropical postcard — two decades of patient Speyside maturation finished in casks that once held Caribbean rum.
Distillery & Heritage
Long a darling of travel retail and now a permanent fixture in the core range, the 21 Gran Reserva is matured for 21 years in traditional oak casks before being finished for four additional months in select Caribbean rum casks. Malt Master Brian Kinsman personally selected the rum casks on a trip to the Caribbean.
Tasting Notes in Detail
The nose leads with banana, vanilla and toffee — the rum cask making its presence known immediately — followed by candied fruit, ginger and warm oak. The palate is rich and creamy, with tropical fruit, brown sugar, baking spice and a deeper figgy fruitcake note.
Verdict
One of the most successful finished whiskies in the category.
