Tasting Notes

Nose

Rich oloroso sherry, Christmas cake, dark chocolate, orange peel, walnut and a wisp of old leather.

Palate

Full and rounded — dried figs, raisins, treacle toffee, baking spice, cocoa and a gentle tannic grip.

Finish

Long, warming and dry — sherry oak, dark fruit and a lingering nuttiness.

First Impressions

Glenfarclas 21 pours a deep amber-mahogany — visual proof of two decades in sherry oak.

Distillery & Heritage

Glenfarclas, sitting at the foot of Ben Rinnes in Speyside, has been owned by the Grant family since 1865 — six generations and counting. The distillery is famed for its direct-fired stills (the largest in Speyside) and an uncompromising commitment to maturation in first-fill and refill oloroso sherry casks from Jerez.

Tasting Notes in Detail

The 21 Year Old sits in the heart of the core range and is, for many, the sweet spot. Twenty-one years in sherry wood delivers depth without the heavy tannins that can creep into older sherried whiskies.

Verdict

One of Speyside's great sherried malts, and astonishing value for a 21 year old single malt.
