Tasting Notes

Nose

Sweet wood smoke, vanilla, honey, baked apple and a salty coastal note.

Palate

Smooth and approachable — campfire smoke, honey, vanilla, soft oak and a gentle peppery warmth.

Finish

Medium, smoky and slightly sweet with lingering vanilla and ash.

First Impressions

Originally launched as 'Black Grouse' and later relaunched as Smoky Black, this is Edrington's nod to the peat-loving end of the Famous Grouse audience.

Distillery & Heritage

The Famous Grouse has been Scotland's bestselling blend for decades and is the flagship blend of Edrington, owners of Highland Park and The Macallan. Smoky Black uses the same Highland Park- and Macallan-influenced backbone but dials up the proportion of peated Highland and Islay malts.

Tasting Notes in Detail

The nose offers sweet wood smoke, vanilla, honey and baked apple. The palate is smooth and easy — campfire smoke, honey and vanilla over soft oak.

Verdict

An honest, affordable smoky blend.
