Tasting Notes

Nose

Sweet barley, light honey, soft sherry, a whisper of orange peel and gentle smoke.

Palate

Smooth and malty with toffee, dried fruit, vanilla and a faint nutty Highland Park warmth.

Finish

Medium, clean, with lingering honey and a touch of oak spice.

First Impressions

The Famous Grouse is the everyman blend done right.

Distillery & Heritage

Created by Matthew Gloag in Perth in 1896 and named after Scotland's national game bird, Famous Grouse became part of Edrington in 1970. It draws heavily on Highland Park and Macallan malts.

Tasting Notes in Detail

The nose is gentle and inviting — barley sweetness, soft sherry from the Macallan component, and a thread of Orcadian heather smoke from Highland Park. The palate keeps things smooth and unchallenging.

Verdict

A genuinely well-made everyday blend.
