Tasting Notes

Nose

Sweet and floral — honeysuckle, dried flowers and leaves. Roasted bananas, pears, vanilla, honey, caramel. A touch of spice. Charming and inviting.

Palate

Sweet at the front — banana, marshmallow vanilla, caramel. A bit of hay and spice mid-palate. The eight years of bourbon barrel maturation add genuine vanilla and grain depth. Non-chill-filtered at 46%.

Finish

Short — vanilla, caramel, spice, banana. The finish is Egan's weakness — flavours depart a little quickly.

Egan's Vintage Grain is an eight-year-old Irish single grain whiskey aged in American oak bourbon barrels and bottled at 46% without chill filtration. It is a sourced whiskey — the Egan family selects and bottles grain whiskey from established Irish distilleries.

The eight years of bourbon maturation give the grain spirit genuine character. The honeysuckle sweetness, banana and vanilla from the American oak create a charming, accessible whiskey that is smooth without being characterless. The 46% and non-chill-filtration add more body than most Irish grain offerings.

Egan's Vintage Grain is an exceptionally smooth and characterful single grain — brimming with charming sweetness and warm spices. The short finish is the only weakness; in every other respect, it delivers genuine quality and character from a category often overlooked. A well-priced Irish grain with real personality.
