Tasting Notes

Nose

Floral, fine oak, sandalwood. Dark fruit, toffee. Malt with vanilla, sweet cereal grains, honey oats, dried apricot. The XO Cognac finishing adds a sophisticated warmth.

Palate

Almond nougat, honey, brown sugar, tea leaf. Spicy raisin with oak and vanilla. Leather, caramelised ginger, marzipan, light citrus peel. Elegant, well-mannered — balanced and velvet soft with honey and gentle spice.

Finish

Long and lasting — sweet honey, vanilla, cherry liquorice, marmalade. Oak spice and light chocolate linger.

Egan's Conviction blends single malt and single grain Irish whiskeys, each aged for at least ten years, then married and finished in XO Cognac casks. At 46%, it is the premium expression of the Egan family's Irish whiskey range.

The XO Cognac cask finishing is the luxury touch. The Cognac barrels contribute fine oak, sandalwood and a brandy warmth that elevate the blend beyond conventional Irish whiskey territory. The ten years of base maturation provide genuine depth — honey, dark fruit, cereal sweetness.

Egan's Conviction is an elegant, well-mannered Irish whiskey for contemplative drinking. The Cognac finishing adds sophistication, the ten years add depth, and the velvet-soft delivery makes it genuinely pleasurable to drink. Reviews are divided on value at £79, but the quality is beyond question.
