Tasting Notes

Nose

Lemon meringue, vanilla custard, fresh-cut grass and meadow flowers.

Palate

Silky and gentle. Honeyed cereal, white chocolate, lemon curd and toasted almond.

Finish

Medium length, clean and citrus-tinged with lingering vanilla and a faint herbal note.

First Impressions

The Epicurean is the gentlest of Douglas Laing's regional bottlings — a Lowland blended malt designed to showcase the soft, grassy character of Scotland's southernmost whisky region.

Distillery & Heritage

Named after the historic Edwardian-era foodie magazines that flourished in Glasgow and Edinburgh, The Epicurean celebrates the cultured palates of Lowland Scotland. Fred Laing assembled the blend from select Lowland single malts — almost certainly including Auchentoshan and Glenkinchie components.

Tasting Notes in Detail

This is whisky for sunny afternoons. The nose drifts up with lemon zest, fresh pastry and floral notes. The palate delivers silken texture, honeyed cereal sweetness and that characteristic Lowland gentleness.

Verdict

An ideal introduction to Lowland malts.
