Dingle has been one of the more interesting stories to emerge from Ireland's craft distilling renaissance. Situated on the wild Atlantic coast of County Kerry, this small-batch operation has built a reputation on doing things with care rather than at scale. Their Single Malt Irish Whiskey, bottled at a confident 46.5% ABV and without an age statement, represents the distillery's core expression — and having spent time with it over several sessions, I think it deserves your attention.

What strikes me first about Dingle is the intent behind the bottling strength. At 46.5%, this is a whisky that hasn't been diluted into submission. That's a deliberate choice, and one that signals the distillery wants you to experience what they've actually made, not a watered-down version of it. It's non-chill filtered territory in spirit, if not always in practice, and I appreciate that approach from a producer of this size. Too many Irish single malts arrive at 40% and leave you wondering what was lost along the way.

As a NAS release, Dingle's Single Malt asks you to judge it on what's in the glass rather than a number on the label. That's fair enough. The Irish single malt category has become fiercely competitive in recent years, with established houses and newcomers alike vying for shelf space. Dingle's advantage is character — this is a whisky with a sense of place, shaped by small pot stills and the kind of hands-on production that larger operations simply cannot replicate at volume.

Tasting Notes

I'll reserve detailed tasting notes for a future revisit with a fresh bottle, but what I can say is that this whisky carries the hallmarks of well-made Irish single malt: approachable yet layered, with enough complexity at 46.5% to reward patience. Give it time in the glass. It opens up considerably after a few minutes, and a drop of water doesn't hurt either.

The Verdict

At £49.95, Dingle Single Malt sits in a competitive bracket. You're paying a modest premium over the big-name Irish malts, but what you're getting is genuine craft production from a distillery that hasn't cut corners on strength or, from what I can tell, on maturation. It's not trying to be Midleton. It's not trying to be Bushmills. It's distinctly Dingle, and that sense of identity is worth something in a category that can sometimes feel homogeneous.

I'm scoring this 7.7 out of 10. It's a well-constructed single malt that over-delivers for its price point, with enough personality to stand apart from the crowd. I'd like to see what Dingle does with older stock as the distillery matures — the foundations here are sound, and I suspect the best is still ahead of them. For now, this is a very solid dram that belongs in any Irish whiskey collection.

Best Served

Pour it neat at room temperature and let it sit for five minutes before your first sip. The 46.5% ABV means it can handle a small splash of still water without falling apart — in fact, I'd encourage it. A few drops open the malt beautifully. If you're in the mood for something longer, this works surprisingly well in a Highball with good soda water and a twist of lemon peel. Keep it simple. The whisky has enough going on without complication.
