Tasting Notes

Nose

Soft honey, vanilla, heather, light citrus zest and a faint waft of green apple.

Palate

Smooth and mellow — honeyed cereals, toffee, baked apple, mild oak spice and a touch of orange peel.

Finish

Medium-short, clean and warming, leaving honey, vanilla and a faint nuttiness.

First Impressions

Dewar's White Label is the blend that built an empire. Created in 1899 by master blender AJ Cameron, it pioneered the practice of marrying the component whiskies together in cask after blending — a process Dewar's still calls 'double ageing'.

Distillery & Heritage

The heart malt is Aberfeldy, the Highland distillery built by Tommy Dewar in 1898 to supply the family blend. John Dewar founded the firm in Perth in 1846. Dewar's has won more awards than any other blended Scotch in the world.

Tasting Notes in Detail

This is honeyed, easy-drinking Scotch built for cocktails and highballs but perfectly enjoyable neat. The Aberfeldy backbone gives it a heather-honey sweetness that lifts it above most supermarket blends.

Verdict

The benchmark honeyed blend.
