First Impressions
The Dalmore 18 is the distillery's flagship core expression and pours a deep mahogany.
Distillery & Heritage
Matured for 14 years in American white oak ex-bourbon casks, the spirit is then transferred to 30-year-old Matusalem oloroso sherry butts from Gonzalez Byass for a further four years of finishing. Bottled at 43% rather than the 40% of the 15, it gains noticeable weight and presence on the palate.
Tasting Notes in Detail
The nose offers rich oloroso, dark chocolate, candied orange peel, coffee, walnut and warm spice. The palate is full and viscous: orange peel, treacle toffee, dark chocolate, raisin, espresso and clove, with oak tannins lending shape.
Verdict
A serious sherried Highland malt that delivers on the price tag.
