Tasting Notes

Nose

Honey, ripe apple and pear, vanilla wafer, soft hazelnut and a gentle whiff of heather.

Palate

Creamy and rounded — orchard fruit, honeyed malt, butterscotch, almond and a touch of warm spice.

Finish

Medium length, smooth and nutty with lingering honey and a faint floral note.

First Impressions

Chivas Regal 12 is the textbook Speyside-style blend — gentle, honeyed and immediately approachable.

Distillery & Heritage

The Chivas brothers opened their Aberdeen grocery in 1801 and were supplying whisky to Queen Victoria by 1843. Today owned by Pernod Ricard, the blend is built around Strathisla — Scotland's oldest continuously operating Highland distillery (1786) — and is married at the Chivas Brothers blending halls under master blender Sandy Hyslop.

Tasting Notes in Detail

The nose offers honey, baked apple and a soft hazelnut creaminess. The palate is silky and rounded — vanilla, butterscotch, orchard fruit and gentle spice.

Verdict

The benchmark smooth blend.
