Tasting Notes

Nose

Delicate white pepper, oak and vanilla. The Romanian Pinot Noir cask influence adds a distinctive berry-fruit quality. Sweet and slightly salty.

Palate

Balanced, rich and sweet — the Pinot Noir cask maturation gives the whisky a fruity, wine-influenced character. The Romanian barley and sub-Carpathian water provide a clean, pure foundation. A genuine sense of Romanian terroir.

Finish

Long and complex. The wine cask influence sustains with berries and gentle oak.

Carpathian Single Malt from Alexandrion Saber is Romania's first single malt whisky — a genuinely pioneering spirit that uses 100% Romanian-grown malted barley, sub-Carpathian water, and maturation in Romanian wine casks. The Pinot Noir Cask Finish expression was matured exclusively in casks from Romanian Pinot Noir production — a first in single malt history.

The Romanian wine cask maturation gives the whisky a distinctive terroir. The Pinot Noir casks contribute berry fruit and a gentle tannic structure, while the Romanian barley and mountain water provide a clean, mineral foundation. Under the direction of Master Distiller Allan Anderson, the spirit combines Scottish distilling expertise with Romanian ingredients and wine-making heritage.

Carpathian represents a new frontier for world whisky. Romania may not be the most obvious whisky-producing nation, but the quality of the ingredients — the barley, the water, the wine casks — creates a spirit of genuine interest and character. At 46%, unchill-filtered, it is presented with integrity. A country's first word in whisky, and an impressively articulate one.
