Tasting Notes

Nose

Heather honey, baked apple, vanilla pod, light orange peel and a whisper of toasted oak.

Palate

Richer than the 12 — honeycomb, poached pear, malt biscuit, soft cinnamon and a touch of butterscotch.

Finish

Long, warming and sweet, with vanilla, gentle spice and a clean malty fade.

First Impressions

Where the 12 is polite, the 15 is positively well-mannered with a bit more to say.

Distillery & Heritage

Cardhu was founded in 1824 by Helen and John Cumming on their Cardow farm above the Spey. Today it is owned by Diageo and supplies the bulk of the malt heart for Johnnie Walker.

Tasting Notes in Detail

The nose offers heather honey, baked apple and vanilla pod with a wisp of orange peel. On the palate it is noticeably more substantial than the 12 — honeycomb, poached pear, malt biscuit, soft cinnamon.

Verdict

Cardhu at its most charming.
