Tasting Notes

Nose

Honey, dried fig, milk chocolate, toasted nuts and red berry jam from the port finish.

Palate

Silky and layered — malt, dark fruit, marzipan, baked apple and a wine-soaked sweetness.

Finish

Long, fruity, with port-cask berry notes and gentle oak spice.

First Impressions

The pinkish-amber hue gives away the port pipe finish before the glass even reaches your nose.

Distillery & Heritage

Bushmills 16 is triple-distilled, then matured for at least 16 years in a combination of ex-bourbon and Oloroso sherry casks. The two parcels are then married and finished for several months in port pipes — hence the official 'three wood' designation.

Tasting Notes in Detail

Honey, dried fig and milk chocolate on the nose, lifted by red-berry jam from the port. The palate is silky — malt, dark fruit, marzipan, baked apple — with the port wood adding a wine-soaked sweetness.

Verdict

A genuinely characterful Irish single malt.
