Tasting Notes

Nose

Magnificent sherry, dried fruit, dark chocolate. Twenty-three years and sherry casks have produced a nose of extraordinary depth from this blending workhorse. Nutty, rich, with old oak and a generous warmth.

Palate

Full and gloriously sherried — dried fruit, dark chocolate, roasted nut. The twenty-three years reveal a quality in Blair Athol's spirit that the standard 12 cannot show. Mid-palate brings espresso, a gentle warmth and a magnificent depth. At cask strength, superb.

Finish

Very long, with sherry richness and mature oak.

Blair Athol 23 Year Old is a rare Special Release from a distillery usually hidden inside Bell's blend. Twenty-three years of sherry cask maturation and cask-strength bottling reveal a depth and quality that the standard Flora & Fauna 12 can only hint at.

The transformation is remarkable. Blair Athol's naturally nutty, sherried character — prized by blenders — becomes genuinely magnificent at twenty-three years and cask strength. The sherry richness, the nutty depth, the mature oak warmth — all fully developed and beautifully integrated.

Blair Athol 23 is one of the most impressive Special Releases from any blending distillery. The quality hidden inside Bell's blend is fully revealed, and the result is a Highland malt of genuine distinction. A rare opportunity to taste a blending workhorse at its absolute best.
