Tasting Notes

Nose

Rich caramel, dried cherry, charred oak. Each Barrell batch is unique, but the house style is consistent — rich, layered and intense at cask strength. Beneath the sweetness, leather, tobacco leaf and a gentle spice. Complex and deeply inviting.

Palate

Full-bodied and complex — dark caramel, dried fruit, roasted pecan. The multi-source blending creates a bourbon of unusual breadth, with each component distillery contributing different flavour threads. Mid-palate brings chocolate, cinnamon and a robust oak structure. Dense and chewy at cask strength.

Finish

Very long, with dark caramel, dried fruit and a warming complexity that sustains.

Barrell Craft Spirits was founded in 2013 by Joe Beatrice with a simple but radical premise: source excellent bourbon from multiple distilleries, blend it with expertise, and bottle it at cask strength without chill filtration. Each batch is a unique blend, numbered sequentially, and the variation between batches — in age, proof and flavour — is part of the appeal. The company does not distil; it blends, and it does so at the highest level.

The blending is Barrell's genius. By sourcing bourbon from Kentucky, Tennessee, Indiana and other states, Beatrice creates blends of unusual complexity — whiskies that combine the best characteristics of multiple distillery styles into something that no single distillery could produce alone. Each batch is bottled at cask strength, preserving the full expression of the blend.

Barrell Bourbon has established itself as one of the most consistently excellent bourbons in America. The cask-strength presentation, the batch-by-batch variation, and the sheer quality of the blending produce bourbons that compete with single-distillery releases at twice the price. In a market increasingly obsessed with provenance and distillery identity, Barrell makes the radical case that great blending can equal or exceed great distilling. The evidence is in every batch.
