Tasting Notes

Nose

Honeyed orchard fruit, toasted oak, marzipan, beeswax, citrus oils, faint cinnamon.

Palate

Rich yet delicate — vanilla, baked apple, almond brittle, ginger, mandarin, soft oak tannins.

Finish

Long, clean and gently drying, with honey, oak spice and lingering nut.

First Impressions

The 18 Year Old is where Auchentoshan's triple-distilled spirit really shows what extra time in oak can achieve.

Distillery & Heritage

Auchentoshan has been triple-distilling at Dalmuir since 1823, weathering wars (the distillery was bombed in 1941), changes of ownership and the closure of nearly every other Lowland malt distillery. Now part of Beam Suntory.

Tasting Notes in Detail

The nose offers honeyed orchard fruit, marzipan and beeswax with toasted oak supporting underneath. The palate is the highlight: rich without being heavy, with baked apple, vanilla custard, almond brittle and a candied mandarin note.

Verdict

Among the most elegant Lowland malts available.
