Tasting Notes

Nose

Crème caramel and berry fruits — raspberry jam, damsons, peppermint and barley. Red berries, plums, fresh wood, strawberry. A hint of pepper beneath the fruit.

Palate

Creamy with ginger, black pepper, berry fruits and cocoa. Red fruits — strawberries, raspberries, cherries — with honey and blueberries. A syrupy mouthfeel despite the 50% ABV. Rich and full-bodied.

Finish

Warming — pastries, gingernuts, redcurrant jelly and spice. The port influence lingers pleasantly.

Arran Port Cask Finish is part of the distillery's wine cask series — single malt matured for approximately eight years in traditional oak casks before finishing in ex-port pipes. The port finishing adds berry fruit sweetness and a gentle tannic structure to Arran's naturally clean, fruity spirit.

The port cask suits Arran well. The distillery's clean, fruit-forward spirit absorbs the port influence effectively, gaining layers of red berry fruit without losing its essential island character. At 50%, non-chill-filtered, the whisky has genuine body — the syrupy mouthfeel is particularly appealing.

Arran Port Cask Finish demonstrates that the Isle of Arran's spirit responds beautifully to red wine cask finishing. The port adds richness and fruit, the island freshness provides counterbalance, and the 50% presentation gives everything room to breathe. A well-priced, characterful wine-finished island malt.
