Tasting Notes

Nose

Maritime peat, sea salt, a gentle vanilla sweetness. At cask strength, Ardnamurchan's character is vivid and three-dimensional — smoke, brine, fruit. The marriage of peated and unpeated spirit creates layers of complexity. Beneath the smoke, honey, citrus and a coastal freshness.

Palate

Full-bodied and complex — peat, maritime salt, a gentle malty sweetness. The cask strength amplifies everything — the smoke is more vivid, the fruit more intense, the maritime character more present. Mid-palate brings dark chocolate, smoked honey and a robust warmth. Magnificent.

Finish

Very long, with maritime peat and a gentle, coastal sweetness sustaining beautifully.

Ardnamurchan AD/CS is the cask-strength version of the distillery's core release — the same marriage of peated and unpeated spirit from Scotland's most remote mainland distillery, presented without dilution. The additional strength transforms an already compelling whisky into something genuinely impressive.

At cask strength, Ardnamurchan reveals depth and complexity that the standard 46.8% bottling can only hint at. The peated component's smoke becomes more vivid, the unpeated component's fruit more intense, and the maritime character — from maturation on the Ardnamurchan peninsula — more present and three-dimensional. The marriage of peated and unpeated at full strength creates a whisky of unusual layered complexity.

Ardnamurchan AD/CS is one of the most exciting cask-strength releases from any new Scottish distillery. The quality of the spirit, the intelligence of the peated/unpeated marriage, and the genuine remoteness of the location combine to create a whisky with both quality and romance. At its price for a cask-strength Highland malt of this calibre, it represents outstanding value.
