Tasting Notes

Nose

Salt water and seaweed — smoke and sweet peat, vanilla, fresh berries, nuttiness, pear, black pepper, pine needles, honey-glazed ham, leather, coffee

Palate

Pepper and chilli spice — medicinal peat, sea salt, ash, caramel, vanilla, rich malted cereal, creamy and nutty, brown-sugar bacon, smoked salt, milk chocolate, well-integrated oak despite the youth

Finish

Treacle and sea spray — smoke, black pepper, umami, mouth-drying tar and camphor, the beast revealing its full character in the close

First Impressions

Ardbeg Wee Beastie — the rawest, smokiest Ardbeg. Five years in ex-bourbon and Oloroso sherry at 47.4% non-chill-filtered. The youth is deliberate: preserving raw peat intensity that longer ageing would smooth away.

Tasting

Salt water and seaweed nose with vanilla and berries. Peppery palate with medicinal peat and brown-sugar bacon. Smoky treacle finish.

The Verdict

Wee Beastie earns an 8 — raw, smoky, and unapologetic. For peat lovers, not beginners. At £35, the cheapest way into Ardbeg's world. The beast lives up to its name.
