Tasting Notes

Nose

Cherry, caramel, vanilla, with a port wine sweetness. The ruby port finish adds dark fruit and a gentle wine richness. Orange peel and subtle oak beneath.

Palate

Sweet, syrupy and approachable — port wine berries, caramel, vanilla. The bourbon base (aged up to 6 years) provides structure, while the 3-6 month port finishing adds berry sweetness. Nice complexity for the ABV.

Finish

Medium, with port sweetness and vanilla. A gentle, dessert-like close.

Angel's Envy Bourbon Port Finish was created by Lincoln Henderson — a master distiller who spent decades at Brown-Forman before launching this, his own brand. The bourbon is blended in small batches of 8-12 barrels, aged up to six years, then finished for 3-6 months in ruby port wine casks. The port finishing adds a berry sweetness and wine-like richness to the bourbon base.

The port influence is delicate rather than overwhelming. The ruby port adds dark fruit sweetness, a gentle wine character and a slight tannic grip, while the bourbon provides vanilla, caramel and oak structure. At 86.6 proof (43.3% ABV), it is approachable and smooth — designed for bourbon drinkers who want something a little different rather than port enthusiasts seeking whiskey.

Angel's Envy Port Finish was one of the first finished bourbons to achieve mainstream success, and its commercial triumph has inspired countless imitators. The quality of the original remains genuine — sweet, complex and approachable. A bourbon that created a category and remains one of its finest expressions.
