Alfred Giraud Heritage is a triple malt, triple wood whisky — three non-peated French malt distillates matured in extra-old Cognac casks, new French Limousin oak and American oak casks. At 45.9%, non-chill-filtered, it presents the second expression in the Alfred Giraud range alongside the more experimental Voyage.
The Cognac cask influence is the dominant thread. The extra-old Cognac barrels contribute a delicate brandy warmth, grape sweetness and a refined oak character that French Limousin and American oak cannot provide alone. The three-malt, three-wood approach creates a whisky of genuine complexity.
Heritage scored 92 points from reviewers and was described as a delicate, delightful dram. The subtle sweetness, the apparent Cognac influence and the creamy mouthfeel create a French whisky of genuine luxury. Limited release each year and not widely available, Heritage rewards the effort of finding it. Unmistakably French, unmistakably excellent.
