Adelphi Private Stock is the entry point to one of Scotch whisky's most respected independent ranges. Where Adelphi's single-cask bottlings are famous for sherry-driven intensity and high strengths, Private Stock takes a softer approach — a blended malt designed for everyday drinking and easy gifting.
Distillery & Heritage
The Adelphi name dates back to a Glasgow distillery that closed in 1907. The brand was revived in 1993 by Jamie Walker as an independent bottler, and later passed to Keith Falconer and Donald Houston, who built Ardnamurchan Distillery on Scotland's west coast in 2014. Private Stock pre-dates that distillery project and remains a showcase for the indie's blending skills.
Tasting Notes in Detail
This is comfort-zone Scotch in the best sense. The nose leans on soft malt and gentle sherry influence, the palate is rounded and sweet without being cloying, and the finish drifts off pleasantly. Adelphi's house preference for sherry-cask whisky shows up in the dried-fruit notes, but the 40% bottling strength keeps everything mellow.
Verdict
Private Stock won't blow doors off the way Adelphi's cask-strength single malts can, but that's not the point. It's a friendly, fairly priced blended malt from a respected indie.
