Tasting Notes

Nose

Soft apricot and vanilla cream — honey, blackcurrant jam, leather, tobacco, fresh apples and oranges, supple sultanas, the triple cask influence building complexity

Palate

Oily and rich — cognac-like, vanilla, stewed berries, raisins, plums, blood oranges, hazelnuts, almonds, chocolate, polished wood, coffee, the 18 years providing extraordinary depth

Finish

Exceptionally long — crème brûlée sweetness moving into gentle oak spice, the triple cask influence ensuring the finish evolves for minutes, one of Speyside's longest finishes

First Impressions

Aberlour 18 — introduced in 2008 — has become one of the stars of the range. Matured in bourbon casks and Oloroso sherry butts, finished in Pedro Ximénez sherry casks. Double Gold at San Francisco 2011 and 2012. A heavily sherried Speyside of real opulence.

Tasting

The nose is apricot, vanilla cream, and blackcurrant jam. On the palate at 43%, oily with stewed berries, chocolate, and coffee. The finish is exceptionally long with crème brûlée and oak spice.

The Verdict

Aberlour 18 earns a 9 — heavily sherried Speyside of remarkable opulence. Double Gold at San Francisco twice. At £141, triple cask luxury from one of Speyside's finest.
