Whisky Review: King Robert II 12-Year-Old at 40% ABV) — at $21.99, the question is whether it delivers on its promise. I sat down with a pour to find out.

Nose

In a noticeable improvement from the Treble Cask, the 12 years spent in wood reduced the abrasive nose from the younger version. I could sip on this with a few pieces of ice, but would not let it linger on my tongue as the palate collapses quickly into an unpleasant bitterness. Comparable in quality to Johnny Walker or Famous Grouse, you could make worse decisions at a bar and would be a great choice as a party mixer. rnrnThe 12 year is definitely worth the extra $7.00 over the Treble Cask.

The Bottom Line

Whisky Review: King Robert II 12-Year-Old is fine — not bad, not great, just fine. At $21.99, I think there are better options in this range if you are willing to look around.
