Whisky Review: Alberta Premium landed on my desk at 40% ABV or 80 proof, 100% rye whisky, carrying a $25 price tag. Here is what I found.
Nose
Alberta Premium. Made by Alberta Distilling Limited (owned by Beam Suntory). 40% ABV or 80 proof, 100% rye whisky. $25 MSRP. Calgary, Alberta, Canada. Color: Light straw with quick, thin legs that slide down the glass.
Palate
This isnt going to be the best Canadian whisky youve ever had. It is very mellow and nonintrusive; I imagine this would be an easy base in a sidecar or Canadian Maple old-fashioned. You can easily get through a bottle, although I dont think youre going to remember the whisky. Personally, I think a 100% rye whisky should have stronger rye notes. I want to explore the grain and I simply dont get the desired profile here. Unfortunately, outside of being easy to drink, nothing really stands out about this whisky to me.

The Bottom Line
Whisky Review: Alberta Premium is fine — not bad, not great, just fine. At $25, I think there are better options in this range if you are willing to look around.
