Redwood Empire Grizzly Beast Batch 2 landed on my desk at 100 proof, carrying a $90 price tag. With 5 years of age behind it, Here is what I found.
Nose
Honey colored and somewhat light bodied.
Palate
Toasty marshmallow, cola, and wet earth One inhalation and I was checking my mental calendar for the next good opportunity for a camping trip. Very light on the tongue. The major notes are honey graham cracker and nougat with the barrel char taking over near the end for a sort of burnt-but-bright creme brulee finish.
Finish
Doesn’t have to be ridiculously complex to be enjoyable. This isn’t the standard line up of American whiskey flavors, but it’s also not at all hard to get into and savor. Relatively easy to understand and very easy to like, it’s also easy to recommend.
The Bottom Line
Redwood Empire Grizzly Beast Batch 2 delivers the goods. It is well-made, genuinely enjoyable, and at $90 represents solid value for what you are getting. I would happily buy this again.
