Old Fitzgerald Bottled-in-Bond Spring 2022 Edition — at $185 Dark amber in color with fairly high viscosity, the question is whether it delivers on its promise. I sat down with a pour to find out.

Nose

Dark amber in color with fairly high viscosity.

Palate

Bouquet of crisp red apple, fresh rainfall, and maple beignets. This is the Platonic ideal of a bourbon: sweet, dark, and round. When you think of American whiskey, this style is likely what pops into your head, and for many people that will be a good thing. I personally found it oversweet and prefer whiskey with stronger floral presence and a lighter palate overall, but if you prefer your whiskey on the heavy side, you will probably enjoy this.

The Bottom Line

Old Fitzgerald Bottled-in-Bond Spring 2022 Edition is a perfectly respectable whiskey that does what it sets out to do. At $185 Dark amber in color with fairly high viscosity, the value is reasonable — it will not blow your mind, but it will not disappoint you either. A reliable choice.
