Bluebird Days Straight American Whiskey at 43% ABV) — at $50.00, the question is whether it delivers on its promise. I sat down with a pour to find out.
Palate
Tasting most like a wheated bourbon, this whiskey is a very approachable and rewarding experience. It is satisfyingly complex without trying to do too much, and the four-grain notes are present, with discernable rye spice briefly punching through a rich wheat body. While Im still not giving up my never-ending quest to find a bottle of Colonel E.H. Taylor, Jr. Four Grain Bottled-in-Bond, Ill be sipping on this in the meantime.
Finish
A flash of plum wine is almost missed as lush caramel and gingersnap burst in. Deeper flavors of sunflower seeds, honey, and malt develop alongside oak. The finish drops off to faint bitter orange peel, allspice, and coconut, with a touch of mint. Editor’s Note: This whiskey was either bought as a sample by Whiskeyful or provided to us as a review sample by the party behind it. The Bottom Line
Bluebird Days Straight American Whiskey is a perfectly respectable whiskey that does what it sets out to do. At $50.00, the value is reasonable — it will not blow your mind, but it will not disappoint you either. A reliable choice.
