Score: 4/5 Tasting Notes: Broken Top Mountain 113 Proof Straight Bourbon Whiskey Vital Stats: Aged 2 years, 113 proof (56.5% ABV). Appearance: Tawny. Nose: The spicy, herbaceous aromas of wild roots, molasses, and sweet fruit are rounded out nicely with lush grassy notes of fruit, brown sugar, vanilla, and a hint of creamy root beer froth. Palate: Spices permeate the palate as well along with dry grassy and grainy notes of pine sawdust, woody hints of cigar smoke, molasses, and pepper. Score: 5/5 Final Thoughts: These whiskeys are distinctly different in complexity and texture, each of which have broad flavor profiles that are very well-balanced with long, savory finishes. The 113 proof is dry and woody, the bourbon is silky and spicy, and the rye is cool and smooth. Overall, these whiskeys, each in their own individual way, would make for a fitting way to cap off a late autumn hike in the mountains.
