Palate

Some producers of whiskey claim that between 10 and 12 years old is a real sweet spot for aging and this bourbon does a lot to substantiate that. The mix of the sweet wheat and the smoky scotch makes this release exceptionally well rounded. The only fault that I could find was that it lacked EVER-SO slightly (emphasis here on the ever-so) in the mid-palate and that is what kept me from giving it a full perfect score. If you have a chance to purchase this rare release, I highly recommend it.

Finish

11-year old wheated bourbon finished for one year in Islay scotch whiskey barrels. 111 Proof (55.5% abv). 750ml, MSRP $499.99. The whiskey ends with smooth notes of barrel spices that linger long after the whiskey is gone. Verdict

Heaven’s Door Bootleg Series Vol. IV 11-Year-Old Wheated Bourbon is an exceptional expression that stands among the finest in its category. It rewards patience and attention in equal measure, and we recommend it without reservation — though at $499.99. Colors of rich golden-brown and burnt-amber, one expects nothing less.
