Booker’s Bourbon Batch 2023-02 “Apprentice Batch” bottled at 62.75% ABV) — a $89.99 expression that merits close attention.
Nose
Amber with brown and orange highlights.
Palate
An excellent expression of Booker’s Bourbon. I’ve read other reviews that criticized the variety of flavors that present themselves throughout the palate. However, I find this analysis misses the forest for the trees. This whiskey is not looking for subtlety and nuance. The constant shifting of flavors lends itself to appreciating the whiskey as a whole rather than as one specific thing. You simply don’t have enough time to dwell on one aspect of it. rnrnAbsolutely exploding with flavor, this bourbon ramps up and up to the finish, turning into an absolute fireball. Enjoy responsibly.
Finish
Anise and cooked wheat linger while cedar finds its way out after a few drops of water. Walnuts and tobacco can also be found with a hint of lemon rind. Verdict
Booker’s Bourbon Batch 2023-02 “Apprentice Batch” delivers a thoroughly accomplished whiskey that justifies its $89.99 price point. It is well-crafted, balanced, and worthy of a place in any considered collection.
