We turn our attention to Bhakta 2013 Bourbon bottled at 50.3% ABV). At $149.00, it enters a competitive field.
Palate
Sweet figs and orange marmalade roll over wonderful notes of vanilla and toffee. Light cinnamon and licorice linger on the palate, with an epic finish of oak, maple syrup and burnt toffee.
Finish
Aged 9.5 years. 100.6 proof (50.3% ABV). Finished in Armagnac casks. ~$149.00 This whiskey was everything I hoped it would be and more. Too often I try a whiskey with a lot of hype and a fancy bottle, only to find an incongruously unsatisfactory and weak flavor. This whiskey is the opposite. Rich without being harsh, spicy without being single-minded, and holding tremendous depth, it justifies every dollar you pay for it. This whiskey absolutely explodes with flavor I can only describe as a warm summer night in New York city in the 1940s. Vintage, timeless, and utterly magnificent.
Verdict
Bhakta 2013 Bourbon is an exceptional expression that stands among the finest in its category. It rewards patience and attention in equal measure, and we recommend it without reservation — though at $149.00, one expects nothing less.
